Stress-reducing philosophies are learned at an early age. What were you taught with respect to dealing with stress? This month’s book examines the effects of stress on the body and mind and offers a five-part solution from the Andes, Yucatan, and Far East to creating a stress-free habit or way of life.

John Perkins, author of this month’s book The Stress-Free Habit, defines stress as “a state that occurs when we believe we are unable to solve a problem.” Stress has been around as long as humans have. In fact, stress hasn’t gone away just because we’ve moved from the forests and plains to urban homes – it has merely changed form. This month’s book examines the effects of stress on the body and mind and offers a five-part solution from the Andes, Yucatan, and Far East to creating a stress-free habit or way of life.

Stress is a serious factor in everyone’s lives because it influences us both mentally and emotionally, for example, depression, lethargy, nervousness, an inability to cope, loss of appetite, and difficulties thinking. It hinders our ability to be in the flow of life and, in particular, to become abundant. While stress doesn’t kill people, it’s the way we react to stress that can.

Stress-reducing philosophies are learned at an early age and are derived from one’s culture. How were you taught to deal with stress? Were you taught to ignore it or get over it or move on? Do you perceive stress as a sign of weakness? Whatever your cultural background, we each need to learn to deal with the stress in our lives.
