New Traditions Academy (NTA) is the result of a life-long dream of founder, teacher, director, and owner Joy Kachel. She felt led to the greater Seattle area to begin this school and moved from San Jose. Originally opened as Healing Transitions, where she offered classes in healing, ceremony, and personal development, she subsequently reframed and expanded her school into the New Traditions Academy, whose focus is on preparing superior, successful, alternative health care practitioners.
To that end, electives and 18 certificate programs are offered in many different healing traditions, including energy healing, anatomy & physiology, hypnotherapy, shamanism, feng shui, massage, movement & meditation, and healing ministries. NTA programs employ a holistic approach to health and healing by addressing the whole person mind, body, emotions, and spirit.
NTA is located in Bellevue, WA in the Bellefield Office Park off SE 8th Street an office park set amongst the nature landscape of the Mercer Slough. A beautiful area, you’d never guess you’re surrounded by other office buildings, many of which you can’t see from the windows due the tall trees and positioning of the buildings.
Recognized as a vocational college by the Stage of Washington, you must be 18 years old to enroll in classes and have a high school diploma or equivalent. At the conclusion of certificate programs, you receive a certificate of completion from the school and grade from the instructor. The recognition by the State of Washington signals a change in the thinking in post-secondary education in the state.
Courses can be 2 hours to 6 months or a year in length depending on the subject and how the material is organized. It’s not designed for full-time attendance, but rather part-time, where most classes are scheduled in the evenings and weekends.
The benefit to the student is that you can sample or focus on a variety of healing modalities to find what works for you. You can stay with one teacher or sample many modalities. When you study with a teacher, you benefit from their techniques, modality, and understanding. As you expand your learning in other modalities and techniques, you can mix and match these techniques in your own healing practice to help you reach what the client needs at that moment. The depth of resources and knowledge at New Traditions makes it a place of life-long learning.
