In this Long Snows Moon time of long nights and short days, bring your attention inward, as this is a time of introspection. The darkness can make it easier to plumb the depths of your unconscious to clarify your strengths, your fears, your abilities, your thoughts, and your feelings about this last year. Then future Lunar Reflections will discuss changing any patterns you’ve uncovered.
This full moon is the Long Snows Moon that alludes to dark, long nights muted by falling snow. In fact, December 21st, at the Winter solstice, brings the shortest day of the year and the longest night. In this time of long nights and short days, bring your attention inward, as this is a time of introspection about your feelings and emotions.
Self-examination may seem self-indulgent during this time of giving and community; however, you can benefit from contemplation during this time of year. The darkness can make it easier to plumb the depths of your unconscious to clarify your strengths, your fears, your abilities, your thoughts, and your feelings about this last year. Then, with your new insights into yourself, you can take them forward into the New Year to revision yourself, clarify your efforts, and rebuild as necessary.
As you take this inward time, consider the lessons of this Long Snow Moon, the last full moon of the calendar year. It teaches us about the cycles of the seasons, as the sun is the lowest in the sky, bringing us our shortest day. It also teaches about fear of emotions, relationships, and community.
To uncover your feelings, reflect on experiences that have occurred over this last calendar year. What occurred? How did you feel during the experience? How did you feel after the experience? Do you see any patterns to these feelings or experiences? Can you draw any conclusions about your own responsibility in these experiences?
Sometimes reflections can bring up emotions, memories, or revelations about ourselves that we don’t like. However guard against allowing it to alter your mood; instead, realize that making changes in your life often begins with recognition. Merely notice at this time. Future Lunar Reflections will discuss altering these patterns. In fact, sometimes noticing is all that is necessary to change yourself.
Next Month: January 14, 2006: Earth Renewal Moon.
