Ducks Fly Moon, September 26

The Ducks Fly Moon is after the autumnal equinox and signals a change of energy from the active Spring and Summer seasons to the slower energies of Fall and Winter seasons. Now is the time to reflect on your accomplishments of the most recent growing season. Allow the shift in longer nights and shorter days to assist you in reflecting on what have you accomplished, or not, during this recent season.

The Ducks Fly Moon is the first moon of the fall season after the autumnal equinox. The time of the equinox is when the length of daylight and length of nighttime are the same. Thus the equinox time is a time of learning about balance – or learning what balance feels like in the body.

This Ducks Fly Moon is a sign of changing times. It signals that the seasons are changing from the Summer to the Fall. As the change happens, there is a moment of complete balance. That is the Equinox with day and night are exactly the same length of time.

It may be difficult to go from the full steam ahead energies of the bright summer sunny long days to a slower more reflective time. But remember that it’s impossible to sustain those energies without intervals of reflection and rest. So allow the shift in longer nights and shorter days to assist you in this transition to slow down your energies. Also allow the cooler temperatures or other weather changes to remind you of these shifting energies – and follow along.

One of the purposes of the Fall is to reflect on the accomplishments of the most recent growing season. Therefore, a great way to shift your energies from the active Summer time to the Fall is to catalog your recent successes. Of course, you also want to catalog any failed attempts as well. We can learn by our successes as well as our (perceived) failures.

When you consider what your successes have been, examine various categories of successes. For example, what worked well? What are you grateful for? What can you acknowledge or praise about yourself? What can you celebrate?

Our lives are designed to be lived each year as a journey where we learn with each season, and learn with each year. Learning is achieved by refinement and practice. So take a little time to reflect on your growing season. How did you do?

Next Month: Freeze-Up Moon on October 26
